  1. Run transition first. If the defence is set, identify zone or man before calling.

  3. One undersized interior defender: call CROSS. Four calls only—no clutter.

Stable male rotation. Start TOWERS → Nick replaces Billy for STRETCH → Billy replaces Pai for PAI REST → Pai replaces Nick to return to TOWERS. Pai and Nick are never both off. Raymond’s first assessed spell replaces Billy and keeps Pai + Bojan on to run HIGH–LOW. Woman substitutes remain woman-for-woman.

Shape Chooses the Call

Packed zone gets HIGH–LOW. Man or an extended top gets SPAIN. CROSS punishes one weak interior defender. DOWN manufactures Nick’s catch. Those are the four calls.

1 · HIGH–LOW — Against a Packed 2–3

Default zone call. Move the ball to a wing, flash Bojan behind the two top defenders and keep Billy hidden behind the middle defender. The catch forces the middle defender to choose.
WING ENTRY → BOJAN HIGH → BILLY LOW X1 X2 X3 X5MUST CHOOSE X4 TerepaiINITIATE RoseWING AngelaSHORT BojanFLASH BillyBEHIND X5 ONE GETS IT · ONE GOES RIM
▶ LOOPING · COLOURED = US · RED X = THEM
  1. Pai moves it to Rose. No first-action drive into three defenders.
  2. Bojan flashes from behind the top line to the free-throw-line gap.
  3. On Bojan’s catch, Billy seals or cuts behind X5. Angela stays in the short corner; Pai and Rose stay available outside.
Bojan’s reads: X5 steps up → Billy at the rim · baseline defender takes Billy → Angela short corner · top line pinches → Pai or Rose outside · nobody commits → turn and score.

2 · SPAIN — Pai’s Feature Play

Use against man-to-man or an extended top line. Pai handles, Billy screens and rolls, Bojan back-screens Billy’s defender and pops for three. Angela and Rose protect the corners.
HANDLER · ROLLER · SHOOTER — THREE THREATS AT ONCE X1 X5 X4SCREENED XX TerepaiHANDLER BillySCREEN → ROLL BojanBACK-SCREEN → POP AngelaCORNERRoseCORNER BOJAN THREE
▶ LOOPING · COLOURED = US · RED X = THEM
  1. Billy screens Pai and rolls hard.
  2. Bojan waits for the roll, back-screens Billy’s defender, then pops immediately for three.
  3. Angela and Rose stay in the corners. Their defenders cannot help without conceding a clean catch.
Pai’s reads: lane opens → finish · big stops Pai → Billy rolls free · Bojan’s defender tags Billy → Bojan three · corner defender collapses → Angela or Rose.
Not a packed-zone call. If three defenders are already sitting in the key, stop and call HIGH–LOW.

3 · CROSS — Against One Weak Interior Defender

MAN-TO-MAN: SCREEN HIS MAN → SEAL → IF THE DOUBLE COMES, BOJAN IS FREE XSTUCK ON SCREEN X XLEAVES TO DOUBLE X X Rose AngelaSCREEN BillySEALS Bojan3PT SLOT Terepai DOUBLE → KICK
▶ LOOPING · COLOURED = US · RED X = THEM
  1. Billy starts on the weakside block.
  2. Angela cross-screens his defender across the front of the key.
  3. Billy steps over the top and seals ballside, hands high.
  4. Terepai feeds him. Billy's only read: if doubled, kick to Bojan waiting outside.
One read, not four. Billy inherits the seal and one fixed outlet: Bojan lifts to the same three-point slot every time.
CROSS runs through Billy. Score the seal; if the double comes, Bojan receives the outside kick.

4 · DOWN — Against Anyone Sagging Off Nick

HIS MAN SAGS OFF NICK → ROSE PINS HIM → ONE STEP, CATCH, SHOOT XCAUGHT ON THE PIN X X X X RosePIN-DOWN NickONE STEP Terepai AngelaSHORT CORNER Bojan OPEN SHOT
▶ LOOPING · COLOURED = US · RED X = THEM
  1. STRETCH only: Pai · Nick · Bojan with Rose · Angela. Never four men.
  2. Nick starts low near the weakside block. Not moving, not cutting.
  3. Rose sprints down and screens Nick's defender from above.
  4. Nick takes one step out to the wing and catches. That's the entire movement.
  5. Terepai or Bojan delivers on time. Nick shoots or swings.
Highest-value screen on the team. Nick can't create his own shot and can't cut on that knee — so we manufacture the shot instead.

How to Set a Screen

The gate. A bad screen is worse than none — it's a foul or a wasted possession.

  1. Sprint to the spot, then stop. A screen you jog into isn't one.
  2. Wide base, low, arms crossed on your chest. No hooking call, and it protects you.
  3. Screen the defender, not a spot. Aim at his shoulder. Can't touch him? He goes under.
  4. Do not move on contact. Even leaning is an offensive foul.
  5. Your back points where the handler is going. The angle is the play.
  6. Hold one beat, then release. Leaving early kills it.

The handler's half: run your man into the screen, shoulder to shoulder.

Screen the Defender the Call Targets

One call, one screening job. SPAIN screens the on-ball defender and then the roller’s defender. DOWN screens Nick’s defender. HIGH–LOW uses spacing and a legal seal—not three bodies crowding the key.
CallFirst screenSecond action
SPAINBilly screens Pai’s defenderBojan back-screens Billy’s defender, then pops
DOWNRose pin-downs Nick’s defenderNick lifts one step to the catch
HIGH–LOWNo ball screenBilly seals behind X5 as Bojan catches high

Screening is precision, not traffic. Nobody screens an area and nobody chases a defender through the lane. Arrive, become stationary, make contact legally, then release into the next job.

Legal

No double seals. Two screeners on one stationary defender shrink our spacing and increase offensive-foul risk. The new system creates one clean advantage at a time.
